Napier Marina
I am in the beautiful Art Deco Architecture City, the City of Napier known as Ahuriri.
Facing West Emerson Street from the Criterion Art Deco Backpackers Balcony
Napier is a popular tourist city, with a unique concentration of 1930s Art Deco architecture, built after much of the city was razed in the 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake.
Emerson Street across from the Criterion Art Deco Backpackers Balcony
In February people pour in for the Tremaine’s Art Deco Weekend event so the place I am staying at would be perfect and provide easy access to the beach the city and the events.I’m just sorry I can't be here for it this year.
West Emerson Street from Criterion Art Deco Backpackers Balcony
I am in Emerson Street at the Art Deco Backpackers formerly known as the Criterion Hotel ( the Criterion in Rockhampton Central Queensland on the banks of the Pioneer River has the same rustic charm and deco.)
The Criterion
Art Deco Backpackers Balcony
The Art Deco Backpackers was built in 1932 a Spanish Mission building in true Art Deco style with huge comfortable rooms with a very homely feel and an awesome balcony that overlooks the street where you can relax and watch the world go by or from where the world can observe you.
Welcome to the Criterion
Art Deco Backpackers
They provide a nice brekkie from 7:30 to 9.30am tea coffee sugar toast spreads and cereals.

I would definitely stay here again in July we give it a 10.
Mostly travellers not restricted to but generally considered the young crowd but don’t let that deter you from the next adventure on your agenda.
The happy traveller at the Criterion

Thanks so much you for your hospitality
